The Breach Duration analysis is to supplement the metric of Breach Count, by adding the component of time and duration of the breaches (i.e., instances of continuous exposure between pairs of pedestrians). The goal is to differentiate between instances of breaches/exposure that were short-lived and transient versus those that were continuous and sustained for a longer period of time.
To enable this method, the level of breaching severity has to be set as a priori. The method detects instances of breaches between each pair of agents at each time step and then for its continuation at subsequent time steps. The method keeps track of every breach for as long as it the pair continues to be in one another’s vicinity (within the range defined by the level of breach severity). As a result, the module can output trajectories of common trajectories of continuous breaches each representing a pair of agents that were in breach of physical distancing for a sustained period of time. The trajectories are then colour-coded based on their duration.
